Thailand’s Sustained Tourism Surge: Upcoming  Initiatives for Fueling New Adventures

In the first seven months of 2024, Thailand saw a significant 34% rise in tourists compared to the previous year. In a broader initiative to enhance tourism, Thailand aims to extend the stay for different visitor groups, like students and digital nomads, and introduce new activities for the upcoming low season.

Tourism Surge

According to the announcement made in the last week of July by the Tourism and Sports Minister, Thailand received 20 million international tourists from January to July, as per the Bangkok Post report. Moreover, Thai entrepreneurs have earned over 700 billion baht in revenue from these visitors. The visitors from Taiwan and India have reached the highest tourism surge due to the visa free travel policy and followed by China, Malaysia, South Korea, etc..

New Visa Extension Policies

At the end of May, Thailand's Cabinet rolled out new visa rules to boost tourism, make travel easier, and widen visa-free and visa-on-arrival options. The Thai government has increased the number of countries eligible for visa-free entry from 57 to 93. Visitors can now stay in Thailand for up to 60 days from the previous 30-day limit. Countries benefiting from this longer stay include the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Peru. 

Additionally, Thailand's Destination Thailand Visa Programme grants remote workers, freelancers, and cultural enthusiasts a five-year visa for stays of up to 180 days, which can be extended for an additional 180 days. Check your eligibility for the best visa option starting now!

New Upcoming Activities

To boost tourism during the off-peak season, TAT  introduced a project in early July that promotes these 72 must-do activities across Thailand. This project aims to tourism surge by highlighting unique and engaging experiences available throughout the country.

As part of this effort, the selected activities will be grouped into five main categories: Muay Thai, culinary experiences, cultural events, traditional clothing, and performances. These curated activities are designed to offer a comprehensive and enriching experience for visitors.
